Welcome
to Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship (formerly Cincinnati Riding for the
Handicapped). We are pleased you are interested in our program and wish to
learn more about the values of therapeutic horseback riding.
Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and
Horsemanship has been offering a
therapeutic riding program for children and adults with varying types and
degrees of disabilities since 1985. As a fully accredited operating center
of North American Riding of the Handicapped Association, Classes are
conducted by instructors thoroughly trained in horsemanship, with years of
experience working with individuals with disabilities.
All riders
receive instruction in the basic skills of care of tack, grooming and
tacking a horse, leading and handling, mounting and dismounting and proper
safety, treatment and care around the horse. Through the assistance of our
therapists and volunteers, assigned to each rider, progression is based upon
each riders ability, enabling full benefit from the therapeutic program.
Fees are
$35.00 a class or $180.00 for a six week series. There will be a big savings
when you pay for the whole series rather than individual classes.
Riderships are available on basis of need. Class size is limited to a
maximum of five riders. Riders will be charged for any missed classes
unless notification of absence is received 24 hours prior to the class by
calling 831-7050.
Riders should prepare for classes by wearing long pants and shoes with a
heel. A riding helmet, safety belt and other adaptive equipment is
provided for each rider.
We are excited about providing this opportunity and welcome any questions
you
may have regarding our program. Please do not hesitate to contact
us.
** All first time
riders must make a pre-enrollment visit to the stables. Acceptance in
the riding program will be based on this visit and the required forms being
returned.

Founded in 1969,
NARHA provides training and examination of instructors, sets standards for
operating procedures, accredits approved operating centers and promotes
and researches the provision
of therapeutic riding.
